R.R. Smith Center for History and Art, Staunton Va (part 1)

Also while in Staunton I got to see a few great art exhibits. The gallery space is the R.R. Smith Center for History and Art. There were three exhibits... The lead exhibit featured the craft and art of the local Mills. It was fascinating to see the art work from the different bags of meal. The other two exhibits (in upcoming posts) feature two individual artists work.

Being a foodie myself, and particularly like cornmeal (I import my cornmeal from Virgina) and always liked the simple paper bags, with their colloquial branding.

Some of the packages are still bound with rough twine like at Wades Mill.

Here are some installation views and details of some of the product packages.
