I've been listening to my friend LD Beghtol's latest creation—the new Flare album, Cut!
If you aren't familiar don't miss out on this extraordinary music!
LD is one of the most talented musicians I've ever heard, and one listen will prove it to you too.
Exquisitely composed, sung and produced. Songs of heartbreaking beauty, wit and sadness. I'm not embarrassed to say I was moved to tears.
My current favorite track is Love finds Andy Warhol.

Flare Acoustic Arts League is LD Beghtol (LD & the New Criticism, 69 Love Songs) plus casts of thousands. CUT is his third full-length album under the Flare moniker – the first in quite some time — and his most accomplished effort to date. Like the murderous protagonist in "1905," he's truly "mastered his craft." Tracks like "Hands of Fire" (an homage to artist Henry Darger), "4F," "Emigré Song," "Luminary" (with Low's Alan Sparhawk on guitar) and "Love Finds Andy Warhol" (with guest vocalists including Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields amongst many others) could only have sprung from the pen of a genius. Or a madman. Or as Björn Sonnenberg from the German band Locas in Love says: "a Hells Angel with puppydog eyes." Meet LD Beghtol and Flare. Make the effort. I'm glad I did. —Jan Schewe

LD Beghtol (born 1964, Fort Campbell, Kentucky) is a musician, art director and writer. Beghtol was raised in Clarksville, Tennessee — the youngest of a large, largely dysfunctional family given to the pursuit of the arts and music — and holds a BFA from the University of Memphis. In 1995 Beghtol moved to New York City; currently he lives in Bushwick, Brooklyn. In addition to heading up Flare, Beghtol is the writer-producer and primary vocalist for LD & the New Criticism and is a one-half of the bicoastal project Moth Wranglers (with ex-King Missile bassist/keyboard player Chris Xefos). In 1998 Beghtol was invited by songwriter-producer Stephin Merritt to collaborate as on TMF's' acclaimed 1999 triple-CD box set, 69 Love Songs, on which he sings All My Little Words, The Way You Say Good-Night and other songs.

Beghtol has written extensively about the arts, music, books and culture for Time Out New York, the Village Voice, Travel Holiday, the Memphis Flyer, chickfactor and other publications and websites. Additionally he has worked as a bartender, tailor, doorman, prop builder, housepainter, and exhibition designer. His book 69 Love Songs, A Field Guide was published by Continuum International Publishing Group as part of their esteemed 33⅓ series of critical studies of important rock and pop albums in December 2006.
